Although he's much maligned, M. Night Shyamalan did an excellent job of using colors in "The 6th Sense"(1999). Every time the main character was to interact with a ghost, the color red would appear in the scene, but in a subliminal unobtrusive way.

"Sin City"(2005) used a black & white format with simple touches of color to increase the sense of Film Noir. (Yes, I consider this flick in the excellent category)

Even though I despise the over use of the bleach bypass process in today's films (Bleaching is where a filmmaker will wash out a scene digitally, making it look dreamy or dark. It's like extreme color correction for effect.) The movie that really does it right has to be "El maquinista" (aka "The Machinist" 2004) starring Christian Bale. Without trying to spoil it for those who haven't seen it, the director uses a subtle bleach bypass to manipulate the colors when Trevor Reznik is having spells of "unreality". His "real world" is a stark contrast, but it takes a couple of viewings to realize the colors are your clues to the manipulation of what's real & what's not.

There's 3 modern examples off the top of my head.

Indian Railways, one of the most wide-spread rail networks in the world, is full of activity. This busy rail network is completely owned by the Central Government of India and is administered by the Ministry of Railways.

Indian Railways formally commenced its passenger services on 16th April, 1853 with a small rail link connecting Bombay (now Mumbai) to Thane. However, by the end of 1880, the Indian Railway system had spread its limbs about 9000 miles across the length and the breadth of the country.

Indian Railways has a young and energetic mascot, a cartoon elephant, 'Bholu' clothed elegantly in blue and white like a train guard with a flag in hand.

The corporation has its auxiliary wing, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation that controls the catering and hospitality, budget and luxury tourism and web based reservation services related to Indian Railways.

The Indian Railway website developed to undertake online reservations is operational 18 hours a day. From midnight to early morning, the website undergoes maintenance and servicing activities and hence is not available for customer support, reservations and status verifications. The website is best browsed with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or its other versions.

Special features

There are several comprehensible and user-friendly services provided by Indian Railways. These services have been designed to take some load off the railway ticketing and reservation department all over the country.

Passengers can check their reservation status and send an enquiry to the department of railways through an SMS. There are pre-defined keywords that are assigned to different types of queries.

Online booking and advanced reservation of rail tickets is another important feature provided by the Indian Railways to facilitate convenient booking, saving the time and energy of both the corporation and the passenger.

Tatkal Scheme is a specialised service designed to allow urgent bookings in all classes except First AC and Executive class. Tatkal e-ticket service is available on selected trains and the reservation can be done as early as 2 days time up to chart preparation.

Indian Railways operates certain reasonably priced tour packages across the nation for domestic as well as foreign tourists. These tour packages are categorised under the 'Bharat Darshan' plan, with wide-ranging destinations and tourism packages. Tourism trains also ply in varied parts of the country to introduce, re-introduce, live and re-live the real, ancient India, its heritage and culture.

World Heritage sites in Indian Railways

International World Heritage Programme maintains a list of World Heritage Sites. This list is retained by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. Indian Railways has been honoured with the pleasure of possessing world heritage sites:

Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), Mumbai, is a historic railway station formerly known as Victoria Terminus, or Bombay VT.

Darjeeling Himalayan Railway

Designated as 'toy train', the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is another of the World Heritage Sites in Indian Railways, running on a narrow-gauge from Siliguri to Darjeeling in West Bengal.

Nilgiri Mountain Railway

Nilgiri Mountain Railway, one of the oldest mountain railways in India, was included in the World Heritage Sites.

Kalka–Shimla Mountain Railway

Kalka–Shimla Mountain Railways, a significant 96.6 km railway line is the latest candidate in the World Heritage Sites in Indian Railways.

Heritage and Luxury Trains

Apart from passenger and travel service, Indian Railways also presents deluxe and heritage packages and services through special luxury/heritage and tourist trains such as Palace on Wheels, Royal Orient Express, Golden Chariot, Deccan Odyssey, Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, The Fairy Queen, Heritage of Wheels and Mahaparivivan Special Train.

Let's face it people, the world is changing. Whether it's the increasing price of fuel, the improved performance of cars, or the increasing number of online stores offering discount tires direct to the US public.

Even though they're lasting longer and the number of units aren't climbing as fast as dollar sales, everyone wants a share of that," said Skip Potter, executive director of the Chesapeake Automotive Business Association, which represents locally owned tire service centers in Maryland, the District and Delaware.

I believe a shift in the market is happening as we speak. Discount tire centers make it cheaper, easier, and more convenient to buy tires than traditional independent stores. Growth of discount tire stores are strong. Nowadays there's no reason why we shouldn't buy tires direct.

As I try to arrange some extra end of season games for both my teams, I hear some interesting stories from some of the youth football coaches I talk to. One organization I contacted last week to play an extra game has a pretty good age 10-11 team that is 6-1 now, they are willing to play an extra game. But their youngest team isn't, it seems the younger team has yet to win a game and does not want to play any additional games.

When I asked why they didn't want to extend their season, coach said they were just "tired". This team it seems was still practicing 3 nights a week plus a walk-through on Saturday. So 5 days a week these 7-9 year olds were doing football stuff and they had not won a single game. I asked him to describe what their typical football practice was like and no wonder none of the kids didn't want to play anymore, lots of conditioning and no fun stuff. No doubt these kids are burned out and my guess is they won't have a very good return rate for next years team.

I don't understand why so many youth football coaches don't get that you can have fun, teach great fundamentals and win too.

At this point in our football season we are only practicing 2 nights per week and now are down to 1:15 per practice. This is the time of the year to skinny down the practice time. We know all our competitiors are practicing at least twice that much, but to be quite frank, I wouldn't know what to do with all that extra time. With our rapid pace and exclusion of non football activities including conditioning, we get all we need to get done in the limited time we practice. We still seem to have plenty of time for practicing fundamentals, schemes and perfecting the execution of our football plays and defense.

Our kids are still real excited about coming to football practice and we have had perfect attendance by both teams for the last 2 1/2 weeks. To keep the kids appetite wet for football you have to mix it up this time of year, don't get caught up in doing the same old thing at every football practice.

Some ideas to keep the kids interested:

Put in a trick play or two, even if you don't run them in a game,

Put in a wall kickoff or punt return,

Learn to go on a quick first sound count,

Cross train players in positions they may be playing next year,

If you have your base series down, add a twist like "jet" motion,

Play some of the fun team building games in my book like: tackle baseball, towel game or Hawiian Rules Football,

Do a full contact scrimmage with players changing to other positions, linemen are backs and backs are linemen,

Have pizza delivered to your field for a surprise pizza party after football practice is over,

Relay games like the large dummy carry relay race. Coaches choose sides and the team that loses the losing coach and team has to run a lap,

If you don't kick field goals, practice them anyway,

Add twists to your drills, add a blocker, tackler or running back to a drill that doesn't require one.

There are countless creative ways to keep the kids interested, use some of these ideas or your own imagination. it will help to keep your kids out of a late season funk.

As you have already noticed, there are basically 2 types of putters. The more rectangular traditional looking putters, which are commonly called "anser style" or blade putters. Anser is in reference to the Ping Anser, the putter that basically created the standard. The other type, which can take all sorts of variations, are all "face balanced mallets". A face balanced putter has the weight spread evenly across the face so that if you lay the shaft across your finger and hold it parallel to the ground the face points straight up. These are designed to putt with little or no face rotation, and match up well for very straight back straight through type strokes. The anser style has more weight out on the toe, so that when laid across your finger and held up the toe hangs down to the ground. These match up well for golfers with a more swinging gate type putting stroke, where the face rotates more in the backswing and through swing. Those are the fundamental differences. It is important to know what kind of stroke you have so that you can always select a putter from the correct category.
