Awesome Cleveland HiBore Monster XLS Driver

When Cleveland golf first released the HiBore driver in 2006, the newly designed head stood the golf world on its ear. Fast forward to the beginning of 2009, a mere three years later, and we're on the fourth iteration of the scooped-back driver. This one, as the name implies, is a monster.

The high-launch, low-spin mantra that has been the backbone of driver design is taken to new heights with the Monster. The advantage of this year's model is more of an emphasis on MOI or moment of inertia, the resistance to twisting at impact. The USGA limitation of a 5900 rating is pushed to the Ping i15 Irons limit with extreme rear and perimeter weighting of 24 additional grams.

The length is a whopping 46.5 inches thanks to a Made by Fujikura Flightspeed shaft. The stock shaft offering is the Flightspeed in all flexes and Gold (lower flight and lighter swingweight) or Red (higher flight and heavier swingweight). There are a wide variety of custom shafts from multiple manufacturers, which fit a range of golfers.

Well look out! The Cleveland HiBore Monster XLS is peeking it's large, thin face around the corner staring you right in the face! This is Cleveland's biggest and baddest (make that broadest) hitting area to date, covering 16 percent larger than it's predecessor, the HiBore XLS! That's a big increase. The intent of Cleveland? To provide an ultra-stable and ultra-forgiving driver. By all indications, it looks like they've succeeded.

The HiBore Monster is by all means a high launch, low spin driver. The clubface was raised relative to where the sole touches the ground to reduce the mass by 7 grams to achieve the high launch/low spin combination.Cleveland HiBore XLS Monster Is Hot, Forgiving - and Loud

Cleveland claims the face of the driver is 16-percent larger than the previous XLS driver.

Judging from the drives that fellow club members and I hit, you pretty much just can't miss with the Monster. The sweet spot appears to have expanded to the entire face. The test club was a stiff-flex gold shafted, Ping Anser Forged Irons standard model, 10.5 degrees.

One thing that immediately stands out about the Monster is its sound. It is LOUD! A well-struck ball sounds like it has been fired from a cannon. In fact, to my eyes that is the speed at which the ball comes off the face. The flight of the ball seemed like it was drawn onto the sky by an engineer; meaning, it was almost a perfect version of what ideal launch angle is prescribed. With a square face and neutral weighting, I was able to work the ball into a fade with a little more effort. A fellow club member who was working on "dispersion" issues (as in excessive fade) with his current driver immediately straightened out  direction and launched the ball with a very controlled trajectory.

Roger Cleveland is the founder of Cleveland Golf, he joined Callaway Golf company in January, 1996. He is one of the Callaway Golf Design Experts, he worked as the global chief designer. His exquisite handmade and expertise made him the world's most famous golf equipment producer.

Cleveland/Srixon Form Influential Advisory Board

Cleveland Golf/Srixon have formed a new advisory board comprised of some of the most influential names in the game of golf.

The new board's main role will be to offer guidance pertaining to all Cleveland Golf/Srixon brands and will offer advice on a range of topics including product development, distribution, merchandising, promotional, as well as general marketing issues.

The new Cleveland Golf/Srixon advisory board will be: Paul Earnest, Scott Hamilton, Billy Harris, Mark Leemhuis, Mike McGetrick, Ken Morton Jnr and Mike Small.

Earnest is the PGA Director of Golf at the Four Seasons Resort and Club at Las Colinas, and was named PGA of America's National Merchandiser of the Year in 2004.

Hamilton is Director of Golf at Cartersville C.C. and one of the top teachers and most experienced fitters in the United States.

Harris is Director of Golf at Dallas C.C. and a long-time Cleveland Golf/Srixon staff member who is well-respected throughout the PGA.

Leemhuis is National Director of the Club Managers Association of America and General Manager of Congressional C.C., which hosts the AT&T National and the 2011 U.S. Open.

McGetrick is founder of the Colorado Golf Clubs and the McGetrick Golf Academy. He is also a PGA Master Professional, currently working with PGA Tour players Brandt Jobe, Leif Olsen and LPGA players Juli Inkster and Meg Mallon.

Morton is General Manager of the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex and President of the Association of Golf Merchandisers. He also sits on the Golf Digest Hotlist Committee.

Small is Coach of the University of Illinois Men's Golf Team and winner of the 2005 National Club Pro Championship. He was named back-to-back PGA of America Player of The Year (2006 and 2007), and has played in over 50 PGA Tour events, including seven major championships.

Here is a story of a golf club. It is Cleveland CG15 Oil Quench wedge which offers an improved laser milled face which gives you more precise and consistent surface roughness which maximizes spin.

The new Cleveland CG15 wedge is the most technologically advanced wedge that Cleveland Golf has introduced to the wedge market in almost a decade. The CG15 wedge combines a laser milled face with Zip groove technology to provide golfers with the ultimate control and the highest spin level yet seen in a Cleveland Golf wedge.

The Laser Milled clubface uses the accuracy of a laser to mill four calibrated lines between each groove which conform exactly to the official rules on roughness limit. The new Laser Milled method perfected with the Cleveland CG15 DSG Oil Quench wedges provides a more precise and consistent surface roughness than any of the alternative methods on the markets.

This enhanced roughness has allowed Cleveland to maximise the amount of spin achieved by each CG15 wedge.Laser Milled Face Cleveland Golfs precision surface roughness technology. The result is a clubface featuring a perfectly consistent surface texture right to the conforming limit. The Cleveland CG15 Oil Quench wedge features an S Sole design that incorporates a wider sole near the heal of the club and a narrower sole at the toe to help improve performance from the sand without harming the CG15 versatility when tackling other shots.

The CG15 Oil Quench also features a traction wedge shaft that has a softer tip and is slightly stiffer further up the shaft to provide the feel and responsiveness that is so important for golfers when playing wedges without losing the full shot consistency that is also required. All in all, this is the best wedge, both in sand, and in the fairway. It has the balance, the feel, and the spin control. It works great out of sand, and is equally easy to use even from the tightest fairway lies. I liked it so much.
