Golf Rangefinder
are golf rangefinders legal for use in tournaments?

laser rangefinder

The answer is "it depends". The USGA adopted Decision 14-3/0.5, which modifies Rule 14-3(b), and allows the use of laser rangefinders ONLY IF a Local Rule is adopted. So the organizer of the tournament determines whether or not a laser rangefinder (or for that matter, a GPS device) can be used in the tournament. I've played in some amateur tournaments that allow them, and others that do not.

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are among the most common complaints in the ER.   What causes them?  Lot's of things, however, most of time the actual cause is not known for sure. Diabetics have a predisposition to getting UTIs because their increased blood sugar, makes the urine sugary too. The sugar, is like food or fertilizer for the bacteria, and they grow like crazy!  Other common causes include anatomical predispositions to infection, introduction of bacteria to an otherwise sterile area from tight underwear, sexual intercourse, contamination while toileting, but most commonly, for unknown reasons!

UTIs by definition, is the growth of bacteria in the urine, which is supposed to be sterile.  The most common bacteria found in UTIs is E. coli  which is a organism found in your stool.  Since the urethra is so close to the anus, it is understandable why you could get a cross contamination of feces, with the urinary system.  This is also why females get urinary tract infection much more commonly than males.

Here's the symptoms you'll feel if you get a urinary tract infection.

  • Pressure in the bladder area
  • Pain to one or both sides of the lower back or "flank" areas
  • Intense burning and pain on urination
  • Bloody urine
  • Possible fever and chills in advanced infection with possible vomiting
  • Urinary frequency: feeling like you have to go again, right after you just went!
  • Urinary retention which means you can't urinate and get it all out.

Treatment and Expectations:

  • If you have a true UTI and are urinating blood or have a fever, you need to go to the doctor.
  • If your not sure, or you have pus like discharge coming out where urine should be coming out, go to the doctor
  • Until then, you can take some Azo, an over the counter medication for relief. It calms down the pressure and stinging when you pee, but does not cure the infection.
  • Drink lots of clear, sugar free water to keep the bad stuff coming out
  • For prevention, follow these simple rules:
  1. Urinate often, especially after sex. Keep the bacteria flowing out of your body
  2. Drink lots of sugarless fluids so you can urinate often
  3. Wipe you behind from front towards the back when toileting
  4. Don't hold your urine.  If you have to go, then go!  It prevents urine reflux.
