The traditional approach to tennis elbow surgery was to cut open the skin around the elbow joint to expose the connective tissues and repair the damage thereafter. The conventional approach to this kind of surgery has now been replaced by robots that are controlled with a computer for greater precision in the surgical procedure. The robotic arm is capable of moving a millionth of a millimeter at a time and this gives greater control to the surgeon performing the surgery. This has increased the success rate of this form of surgery and has also enabled the surgeon to preserve a large part of the natural tissue which otherwise might have to be removed.
With 13 years of tennis experience and time spent on the tramlines due to the affects of tennis elbow, I feel like I am in a position to write an article on the issue and how to not become bored and disillusioned with the time out with your injury. Personally I spent a lot of time working on my fitness that would benefit me when I returned to action. Luckily with tennis fitness drills they can never become monotonous, let your imagination run when designing drills and you will have a great time as well as a great workout.
Believe it or not, tennis elbow is the most likely diagnosis a patient will receive if he or she is complaining of elbow pain. In technical terms, the extensor carpi radis brevis is the most likely suspect in the causation of the symptoms of lateral epicondylitis. The symptoms of tennis elbow are as follows: pain that occurs when lifting objects, pain over the outside of the elbow, pain that seems to radiate from the wrist and down the forearm.
There are specific muscle groups that become damaged and involved in this type of injury as well as specific treatments that will help someone heal completely for his or her tennis elbow. Therefore, any injury many be saddening and concerning to someone who has developed it – but the good news is that tennis elbow is treatable.
If you currently suffer from tennis or golf elbow, the pain has probably been escalating for several weeks now. Your muscles tissues are inflamed and only rest will give them the chance to recover. If your arm is swollen, ice packs should be applied regularly. Once the swelling goes away, compression may help the injury heal more quickly. Wrap a first aid bandage tightly around the sore area. Forearm splints are another way to keep from straining the injured arm.
Causes
Tennis Elbow is a common condition caused typically by playing racquet sports, such as tennis and racquetball. What happens is that the outer elbow bone area becomes inflamed and irritated by these sports or other everyday activities. The clinical name for this condition is lateral epicondylosis. Some of the most common symptoms of Tennis Elbow are outer elbow pain, tenderness at the outermost point of the elbow, pain when gripping or holding something in the hand around the wrist, morning stiffness, and pain when lifting with the wrist with the palm facing down for something with some weight.
Tennis elbow (also known as (lateral epicondylitis) hurts, pure and simple and you don't have to play tennis to suffer from it. In reality tennis elbow can be caused by a huge number of activities and even one-time activities such as helping a friend move on a weekend and helping move a heavy item or even several heavy boxes can contribute to a mighty case of tennis elbow.
Other causes of tennis elbow can include long hours spent on the computer keyboard or programs that require heavy use of the mouse will also force you to bend your wrist in a way that can lead to tennis elbow unless you are very conscious of your posture. Lawn and garden work that involves heavy use of tools like electric hedge trimmers which vibrate and cause fatigue in the tendon or repetitious motions of using manual shrub trimmers can do the same thing.
Treatments
Even after you feel you have overcome a case of tendonitis, be sure to continue babying your arm. Always warm up your arm for 5 to 10 minutes before starting any activity involving your elbow. Tennis Elbow cure(Lateral Epicondylitis) is a rather common condition that affects office workers, computer users, waitresses, librarians, mothers of young children, auto mechanics and on and on.
Newer treatments that are being tried include a procedure known as extracorporeal shock wave therapy. Sound waves are used in this controversial treatment that allows induction of minute portions of trauma to be sustained to the tissues. This induced trauma offers a healing to take place and inflammation to decrease. There is controversy whether this treatment is an effective form of treatment. Another treatment that is under scrutiny of further investigation is an autologous blood injection, which is injection of your own blood in to the area of question. This treatment is thought to promote healing to the area. This did provide good results of the small portion of people this was tried on.
