Which shaft flex should I use?

Yesterday I went out and played a round of golf and shot a 133. I was using a 12 degree Cobra M speed driver with a regular flex and was hitting it all over the place. I was told afterwards to use a stiffer flex next time. So I went to the range and used a Launcher driver with a 50 gram stiff flex shaft and hit every shot straight and true. My swing speed is probably around 100. Is a stiff flex what I need?

if you shot 133 I would have to believe that you have other areas of your game that need far more attention than your driver. learn how to putt and work on a short game. you should be able to get up and down from inside 100 yards in 4 or less almost every time. when you do that I am sure your scores would improve quickly. Then you could concern yourself with full iron shots and how you drive the ball.
the game is much more fun when you can actually get the ball into the hole.

You'll also need to decide if you want perimeter weighting on your club face. This allows you to have some extra weight around the toe and the sole and it can be very helpful if you happen to miss a shot. The extra weight will also help reduce the shock and help your ball fly straighter and with greater distance. You'll find that the amount of extra weight you want will be a personal thing. For many golfers, too much perimeter weighting makes it harder to control, while some says it actually makes control more simple.

Also make sure that you consider how much the shaft can bend as you put force into it during a swing. You'll find that different flexes will have different effects with your swing and you should definitely do some experimenting. The traditional flex ratings include regular, stiff, senior, ladies and extra stiff, and it is a good idea to try all of these.
