The relationship between a father and son is often based on mutual interests and hobbies. When a father and son share these interests, it can often bring them closer together. On the other hand, when a father pushes his son into these hobbies, it can tear them apart.
We have heard numerous stories about athletes and their fathers. The father pushed them into a sport that wasn't the son's dream, but the dream of the father. Often, the son resented being forced into a hobby that he wasn't interested in and it drove a wedge between the two.
On the other hand, there are those fathers and sons who share the same passion for their hobbies. They might be baseball enthusiasts or guys who love action movies or those who are into comic books. Starting at childhood, these guys have a commonality and want to spend time together. As the son grows into an adult, they often maintain this interest and really cultivate it, particularly since by now; they can both spend money on this hobby.
Fathers usually have a protective relationship with their daughters. They try to prevent them from making mistakes and keep them away from danger. With the father and son relationship, the dad is usually much more willing to let his son make his own mistakes. He is freer to be a fun guy with his son, because he doesn't feel that he has to protect him from the evils of the world.
When a dad can have a special relationship with their children, everyone benefits. When a father and son relationship is forged, often the son goes on to build that same meaningful relationship with his own son. The relationship sets a good example for the son and gives him a good foundation for a great relationship with his children.
