"Should I learn guitar left-handed or right-handed?" Jennifer asked her friend, who was a guitarist. This is the question that ruffles the mind of many left-handed people who wish to learn playing guitar. The problem is when guitar and other musical instruments were invented, nobody thought of left-handed souls. Hence, they are often designed only for right-handed people.

And it's not just the problem in musical instruments, the daily use tools and conveniences such as pay phones, power saws, and others are also right-handed friendly. Even firearms are designed for the "righty's".

That's why Jennifer was puzzled. Actually, she was frustrated (if only you could hear her asking that question, you would catch the annoyance in her voice). Her parents had gifted a guitar on her 10th birthday. But Jennifer did not want to play guitar right handed. So, she altered the strings around.

The Left-Handed Dilemma

Now Jennifer was not an expert with strings and so, messed up the whole thing. The result was she had to dump the guitar into the closet. Then, when she was 21 years old, once again, she had a desire to learn playing guitar. But, the same question lingered on her mind, "Should I learn guitar left-handed or right-handed?"

Her friend had an idea. "Why don't you play it upside down?" he suggested. This sounded weird; but many famous left-handed guitarists play in the same manner. The only thing you need to take care of is not to be bothered by people's remarks.

An Achievement To Remember

Jennifer heeded her friend's advice and started learning to play chords backwards. Soon, she got her own guitar and was determined to master the skill. Initially, she only strummed chords. In due course of time, she was able to play every chord, whether major, minor, seventh, or sharps.

Soon, Jennifer started attending concerts and festivals to dig into the melody of old songs. Gradually, she developed confidence and started playing at parties and get-togethers. Often, people would remark, "You are playing guitar upside down!" Well, who cared!

Eventually, Jennifer taught herself various styles of playing guitar like "Finger Pick" and "Flat Pick." She even started playing acoustic slide guitar. Then an idea struck her. "Why don't I write my own songs?" she thought. Well, this was the beginning of a new journey for Jennifer. Nobody, not even she, some 10 years back, had thought that a left-handed person like Jennifer would master the art of playing guitar and compose her own music! This was, indeed, an achievement!

Sometimes, the audience would tilt their heads like a bamboozled creature as Jennifer played her guitar upside down. But, at the end of the song, they couldn't help but applaud and admire. Who knows, it might become a trend tomorrow!
