do i need a new driver or just a new shaft?
i am a junior golfer and my pro says i now need to get a new driver because the shaft i currently have isn't stiff enough. Ive tried out the taylormade burner tour, 10.5 degrees and the callaway hyper x 10 degrees. Both with stiffer shafts. I hit both drivers straighter and about 15 metres further then my callaway X460 tour (but the taylormade went very very high). I was wondering whether i just need to get a stiffer shaft in my current driver (which would be cheaper) or whether i need to buy a new driver? My handicap is 8 if that makes any difference and i am 16 years old, so i am likely to hit the ball further in the next few years.
You can get either and would benefit from both.
Go to a shop with a launch machine and see if any drivers are there which take your fancy and if you can hit them longer and straighter than what you have now, your quids in. It would make more sense to pay more money because if you are playing off 8, then treat yourself.
Every driver is going to be different for everybody else. They have different shafts, loft, kick points, grips etc.
The taylormade might of been going higher because of the kick point, this the a point in the shaft what makes the ball get in the air.
A lower kick point means it get higher quicker and vice versa. In my Jack Nicklous CD2 TI, I have a low kickpoint which helps me take get some loft quicker.
Go and try out some different clubs and if you want that extra bit of distance and you are willing to pay the money, get a new driver.
otherwise you will benefit from just a new shaft.
At 16 you still have quite alot of years where you will be growing
