Depending on the time of year, it can be gorgeous or misserable. The summers are very hot. Last year it got to 126 when I was there.
On Thursday nights there is a big street fair known as "Village Fest". Definately, worth attending.
Palm Springs as a town is a blend of:
Gays and Lesbians
Old Retired folks
and
Illegal aliens who work for the hotels and casinos
Sounds kind of curt and terse but it is very true.
There is a great mall in Palm Desert that is good for hours and a big iMax theater, if they are 18 they can go to the hooka bar on Palm Canyon and smoke hookas.
Look on-line for hotels in PS, Palm Desert, Indian Wells (expensive), or Rancho Mirage, not Desert Hot Springs or Yucca Valley. Find one with a pool, that should be easy. Better yet stay in downtown Palm Springs so your kids can walk around.
Best wishes and feel free to drop me an e-mail if you want to talk more about Palm Springs.

I like the Renaissance Esmerelda Resort in Indian Wells, CA, just down the local highway from Palm Springs. They have a great pool area, a beautiful spa, and fantastic restaurants. Their outdoor entrance area is so pretty that my husband and I didn't even mind having our room overlook that area. What fun to see the posh cars driving up.

I just got back from palm springs a few days ago. its amazing! The living desert was the best quote on quote “zoo” i’ve ever been too. The tram and the hummer tour were cool too. I saw tons of wildlife and scenic mountains. It was amazing. I made a video of my palm springs adventures. You could go to my channel and check it out if you want. Thanks!

There are several options:
You could go to Costas which is a club inside the JW Marriott in Palm Desert. It is really fun with lots of good dancing and a young, good looking crowd. You could also go to South Beach which is in Rancho Mirage which is fun, but sometimes a younger crowd (like 21-24). If you guys want to go shopping you could go to downtown Palm Springs, The River at Rancho Mirage, or go to the outlet malls which is in Moreno Valley (about 20 minutes away- off the 10)
There are also several casinos in the area. One in Palm Springs, one in Rancho Mirage and one in Indio (about 15 minutes away). Have fun!!!
Oh yeah- and I'm not so sure about the previous girl's suggestion to go to Las Casuelas for dinner. Its a chain- there are much better places! Try El Mirasol on E Palm Canyon or Armando's on El Paseo in Palm Desert if you are looking for Mexican. Or if you are looking for a good steakhouse you could go to Fleming's, Ruth's Chris, Wally's Desert Turtle (expensive, though) or Sullivan's.

They sure do get hot in the summer! During that time of year, I spend most of my day in the pool!

It would take about 40 minutes, depending on a variety of unknown variables (biggest one being that it is no longer in service) … ATC clearance, altitude assigned, wind/atmospheric conditions if it were still flying.
Since Houston is about 1200 nautical miles from Palm Springs, divide that by 2200 which is the estimated top speed of the SR-71, and you get .55 of an hour or 33 minutes. It takes some time to get up to speed, and slow down for landing, so 40 or a few more minutes is all it would take.

When it's that hot, I don't even like to go out. It's just TOO hot to do much except enjoy the pool. However, the free bike rentals in the evenings are very nice if it ever cools down.
Here are some nice restaurants:
Devane's :Housed in a Spanish-style building which doubles as an Italian villa, this restaurant offers reasonably priced Italian specialties with pasta in a dozen different forms and plenty of pizzas. It is owned by actor William Devane and his wife, and the couple is actively involved in every aspect of the restaurant. Enjoy Lasagne, Gnocchi, Chicken Saltimbacco and other rich entrees. End with a slice of Chocolate Thunder Cake or Tiramisu.
Las Casuelas Terraza:Always busy, this well-run restaurant and bar, complete with dance floor, provides great Mexican food, friendly service and a never-failing spirit of fun. Sit inside for a little insulation from the hustle and bustle or grab a sidewalk-side table near the Palapas Bar, where the heated dance floor keeps people bouncing even when the temperature is unseasonably cold. Choose a tequila from the vast selection of premium brands while listening to the strolling mariachis, who start playing in the morning. The Carnitas are excellent
Doug Arango's Restaurant: This acclaimed restaurant is discovered by word of mouth and from lavish praise in magazines like Condé Nast Traveler, Wine Spectator and Bon Appetit. Housed in a gracious, Italian villa-style building, it has a casual atmosphere. Ready-made take-out food comes from the deli case, but the dining areas are elegant. Wine Spectator Magazine continues to bestow its award of excellence on the extensive wine list, which features California wines but also provides many rare and imported vintages. A signature entree is Spaghettini Alla Checca, a vibrantly fresh tomato concasse over fresh pasta.
Lord Fletcher's: As the name implies, this is somewhat of a British Pub. The two signature dishes are the Prime Rib and the rack of lamb, but there is a full menu of choices. Located at Palm Canyon and Country Club.

Pretty much everyone on my mom’s side of the family live in Palm Springs, or Las Vegas. Both places are really nice but damn they can get hot!

Hi, the fastest way to get from the OC airport to Palm Springs is to fly. But, if you're looking for a more economical route, driving is best. Even though you'll have to rent a car and pay for gas, it is still cheaper than flying, and you'll have the car to drive around Palm Springs. It is about 100 miles from the airport to Palm Springs.
To drive to Palm Springs, follow Cory's directions, starting on the 55 fwy. But after you get on the 10 fwy, take the 111 fwy into Palm Springs, not the 101.
