How do I play an hybrid Big Bertha Heavenwood?

I have a 2H (loft 17°) hybrid BB Heavenwood and I can play it fairly well on a tee. But on the grass the result is terrible. Do I have to play it like a fairway wood or like a long iron?

Compared with a normal 3- or 4-iron, the forgiveness of a hybrid club is Heaven. Though the designs and lofts vary from make to make, the generally small, compact head and low center of gravity of a hybrid make it easy to get the ball airborne. Because there's so much more weight behind the ball, even if you hit slightly behind the ball with a hybrid, the club is going to swing on through. That's certainly not the case on a fat shot with an iron.

Some players who have trouble getting a longer iron airborne play the ball farther forward in the stance and try to lift it with a flippy, scooping motion. A hybrid enables you to swing without any manipulation.

For the hybrid, your stance width should be the same as for a longer iron. Your ball position is forward of center, but not quite so forward as it would be for a traditional fairway wood.

Projectile Motion help, please!?

I missed the last two days of school for pink eye and these are so confusing!

I may be able to give you some hints about solving the first problem.

You start by assuming that air resistance and friction in the gun barrel do not affect the movement of the shell (allowed/encouraged in school physics) That means that the only force acting on the shell is gravity (a constant accelerated movement). Also assume that the heights of the touch down point and the "firing point" are the same.

Now you use the initial speed and the inclination to calculate the vertical speed (recapitulate the meanings of sinus and cosinus - that will get you on the way).

Use the initial vertical speed to calculate the time "t" it takes for the shell to come down again. (there is a formula that combines "x", a, v(initial) and t - find it in your book).

Now use the initial speed and the inclination to calculate the horizontal speed (similar to calculation of the vertical speed). Since gravity is the only force at play this will be a motion at constant speed. Use the time "t" calculated before to calculate how far the shell hits, and that's it.

Unfortunately i know nothing about baseball, but the second problem looks as an exercise in the same formula as above. I haven't a clue as to what is happening to the ball, except that it is in the air for 6.8 s.

Last years Callaway Hyper X is supposed to be very forgiving and the price is pretty reasonable i think.

Today I am continuing the series of articles on hybrid clubs. This installment covers the Callaway hybrid golf clubs that are available to the public. But first, a quick review. I mentioned in an earlier article, that back in the dark ages around the 1970's, most golfers carried what were affectionately known as "long irons". These where irons in the #2 to #5 range, These were designed with the idea to help the golfer hit the long ball.

That was a nice idea, but in reality they served mostly to frustrate golfers who tried to master these diabolical clubs. The long irons have been seen as a curse for amateur golfers who cannot produce complete shoulder turns during their backswing in order to get efficient swing velocity. These golfers found that when they compensated for this by swinging too hard, the long irons proved to be as unforgiving as a Washington lawyer.

Callaway hybrid golf clubs are available in three product lines: FT-Hybrids, X-Hybrids and Big Bertha. Like most hybrids Callaway hybrid clubs are not only more forgiving of miss-hits, but deliver more distance and loft for a given swing speed compared to an iron. Also, you get the additional distance without the loss of accuracy you often suffer when trying to use a fairway wood.

The FT-Hybrids

The FT-Hybrids are part of the Fusion Technology product line. Callaway fuses together different club head materials in the FT line to allow beneficial changes in the distribution of weight by moving it to the perimeter of the club head. Not only does this lower center of gravity but places it further back, or deeper. This allows the club to be more forgiving of off-center hits and provides better loft for the ball in flight.

Another attractive feature of FT-Hybrids is the availability of models with a hook bias. This is a very nice option if you slice the ball all of the time. This line of Callaway hybrid golf clubs also include the VFT and S2H2 technologies. VFT stands for Variable Face Technology. It creates a club face that is thicker in the center and enables more shot distance. S2H2 is clever shorthand for "Short, Straight, Hollow Hosel", and it removes much of the weight in the hosel, moving it to the club head periphery. At $199 with a graphite shaft, FT-Hybrids are the most expensive of the Callaway hyrbrids. They sell for $179 with a steel shaft.

The X-Hybrids

The X-Hybrid clubs are slightly more affordable than the FT line, selling for $139 with steel shafts and $159 for graphite. X-Hybrids also incorporate both the VFT and S2H2 technologies found in the FT clubs. Additionally these hybrids have a unique sole designed to perform better in the rough by more easily cutting through long grass. The weight in the club head is distributed to the perimeter and they have a low and deep center of gravity. The X-Hybrid clubs are available in 2H to 5H, however the 5H is not available for left handed golfers. They come with both graphite and standard steel shafts.

The Big Bertha Heavenwood Hybrids

Big Bertha Heavenwood Hybrids - Definitely the least expensive Callaway hybrid golf clubs. Even with a graphite shaft they retail for $129, and cost only $99 with a steel shaft. And like the more expensive clubs, the Big Bertha hybrids also incorporates S2H2 technology.

The Big Bertha Heavenwood Hybrid has a modified "War Bird" sole with a more elongated and low-profile face. This is intended to inspire a "confident feel" according to the sales literature. Regardless of that, they are designed to be more forgiving for off-center hits. With the range of clubs offered in this line, you can eliminate most irons in your bag except for the #9 and wedges. A left handed version is available in most of these clubs. Additionally, there are a number of standard graphite shafts to choose from, as well as a steel shaft.

So now you probably want to rush off and pick up a handful of Callaway hybrid golf clubs. I imagine it will not be the worst decision you've made for your golf game. And it will probably improve your score more than the Tiger Woods line of golf tees that you ordered. Okay, I'll stop picking on Tiger. Enjoy your new clubs.

What is the best regular flexed shaft for a Callaway Big Bertha Diablo driver 10 degrees?

I drive it around 190 i am 13 years old and am looking to upgrade the stock shaft (adila nvs) What would be a good shaft for me?

The NVS is a really good shaft- I have one in my hybrid. From what I've experienced, Aldila is on the stiffer side compared to other brands of the same flex.

There is no way anyone can tell you on this site what shaft is best for you. We all have our own preferences, we can't see you swing, don't know your swing specs, etc. Go to a clubfitter and get fit. Look for someone that doesn't have flags of certain brands posted on the walls- that way, you know you'll be getting an unbiased fit.

I have had X-14's with all 3 shaft combinations: Uni-Flex Steel, Rifle Shaft Steel and RCH Graphite -- I love them and have found that the swing-weight of the 75 gram graphite is the best for me. Also, I prefer the X-14 "pro-series" as it has less offset and a bit lower face angle through the set that produces a lower ball flight than regular X-14's.

Also noteworthy for women is that Anika Sorrenstam -- the major woman staff player at Callaway -- played X-14's until just recently. Callaway wanted her to play their most recent sets like the X-16's, X-18's, etc., but for years she preferred the X-14's.

Therefore, I suggest you try the clubs with various shaft combinations and focus on the lighter club weight and lighter swing weight graphite shafts. Also, I have purchased most of my Callaway iron sets from CallawayGolfPreowned.com. Their clubs are in beautiful condition and you'll pay anywhere from 20% - 50% less for clubs that are used, but refurbished and warranted by their manufacturer.

Big Bertha. In the world of golf, this is a name that is synonymous with forgiveness, feel, and performance. Introduced by Callaway Golf in 1994, the Big Bertha Irons began a revolution with an iron designed to push weight to the edge of the club. This unique design became the foundation upon which Callaway would continue to improve, amazing us with each and every new model. In 1996, Callaway released an updated version of the original Big Bertha Irons with a few modifications. In the new model, designers used the size of the club head and the volume of the cavity to push weight farther out to the edges of the club head. A Bore-through hosel which actually extends through the club shaft providing more stability and the feel that is expected of all Callaway products. The Sole was modified slightly model to allow for the club to pass through poor lies with even less friction than the before.

Callaway also introduced the Big Bertha Gold Series Iron in 1996. Using the prototype of the original Big Bertha Iron, designers repositioned the sweet spot, added a new contoured sole and redistributed the weight in the head. The Big Bertha Gold Series has a RCH Series 96 shaft and are manufactured from an aluminum bronze alloy for a softer feel. The Gold Series Iron retained the originalÂ’s 360-degree undercut channel and the consistently thin face. The Great Big Bertha Tungsten Titanium Iron hit the course in 1997. In this design, Callaway used Titanium with a Tungsten insert to create a club head that was perfect for use in just about all conditions. The Insert represents only 15 percent of the club head volume but accounts for 40 percent of the weight, keeping the size perfect and the center of gravity exactly where it should be.

The Big Bertha X-12 Irons and X-12 Pro Series Irons followed in 1998. Featuring a lower center of gravity than the original Big Bertha Irons, the X-12 was designed to help golfers get the ball airborne. The X-12Â’s retained the 360-degree undercut channel, CallawayÂ’s patented S2H2 and Tru-Bore Technologies. The Pro-Series was designed for lower handicap golfers and featured the Less-Offset design which enables the more experienced golfer the ability to work the ball more easily. Also featured are the 360-degree undercut channel, the S2H2 and Tru-Bore Technologies. The X-12 Irons were the first Stainless Steel Irons introduced by Callaway and many believe it was this iron that set the standard for high performance irons to follow. The Steelhead X-14 Irons followed the X-12 in 2000 and quickly became the best-selling Iron in Callaway history. Also offered in a Pro-Series, the X-14 featured stainless steel construction and CallawayÂ’s Variable Face Thickness (VFT) Technology that ensured a perfectly located center of gravity (COG). Optimized in the long, mid and the short iron, the Face Thickness tapered from top to bottom and heel to toe. The Pro-Series designed for the advanced golfer was designed with Less-Offset than the regular X-14

Callaway‘s original Big Bertha Irons were upgraded once more in 2002. In this iron set, Callaway added all of it‘s latest technologies which retaining the original and very popular appearance and shape the Big Bertha Irons were known for. These technologies took the game of the golfer using them to a whole new level with increased forgiveness and maximum performance. Also introduced in 2002 was the Hawk Eye VFT Irons. Quite simply, in this set, Callaway simply used all of their design knowledge and added the titanium package. The most popular addition to the Hawk Eye VFT irons, however, was the internal weight pocket that allowed designers to position the mass deep and low across the clubface. This design provides for unequaled trajectory without sacrificing forgiveness or feel. The following year, Callaway went back to the drawing board to create the new Steelhead X-16 and the Steelhead X-16 Pro-Series. Changes included a shorter blade length and wider topline plus the addition of Callaway’s latest technology, Notch Weighting. The X-16 features included a low center of gravity, a cambered sole, and a satin finish. The Pro-Series were given a more blade-like design, Less-Offset, a thinner topline, narrower sole, and a straighter leading edge.

In 2004 and 2006, Callaway added two more models to the original Big Bertha Irons as and in 2005, introduced the X-18, the X-18 Pro-Series, the X-Tour Irons and the Big Bertha Fusion Irons. Proving once more than theirs is not a company to rest on itÂ’s laurels. In the past 20 years, the most significant change in golf clubs has been the increased size of the clubhead. It all began with the introduction of the original Big Bertha driver in 1991, and ever since, club manufacturers have steadily increased the size of the clubface. The Big Bertha boasted a clubhead volume of 190 cubic centimeters (cc). Today, the maximum size permitted by the United States Golf Association is 460 cubic centimeters. A beginner needs a driver around 430 cc to provide a large hitting area which will result in much better shots. There's no question about it - size does matter.

Another recommendation for the beginner is to choose a large head driver that has between 10 and 12 degrees of loft. With this additional loft, it will be easier to get the ball airborne and the ball flight should be a bit straighter.

There is a small place on the face of a golf club that allows for the most solid strike of the ball. This place is known as the "sweet spot." When a golf ball is struck on this sweet spot, maximum distance is achieved. Striking the ball outside of the sweet spot results in a "mishit" and a restricted ball flight. Large face drivers maximize the size of the sweet spot and reduce the number of mishit shots, thus producing a greater number of longer drives and a happier golfer.

The size of the clubface of irons has also increased over the years, although not as drastically as the driver and metal woods. These larger irons have an enlarged sweet spot hitting area that allows for a greater number of solid shots and fewer mishits.

Club manufacturers have also added the element of "perimeter weighting" to these larger irons. Perimeter weighting is the term used for pushing weight from the center of the club to the outer edges. With this weight distribution, the clubhead is less likely to twist when a ball is mishit, which produces a longer ball flight.

Big Bertha 460 grip slips, Anyone else have this problem?

I have recently gotten the Callaway Big Bertha 460 Driver. But when my hands get sweaty, the grip on it seems to slip on my downswing. Anyone else have this problem? Could you recommend a good grip for me to put on it?

you are not alone in this . callaway makes great clubs . but the grips , just do not last for certain people . i cant use them . others cant . some players get 4 years out of them . i for one would like callaway to have grip options for every body . but with thier sales so high . it would slow down club production . it is a rock and a hard place . try taking club back to retailer . they will regrip with a better feeling grip . this service will be free . how is that driver . live in the sticks , cant get away to try one .
